The White House Backpacker Lodge has a variety of accommodation types, all offered in a friendly, laid-back atmosphere that travellers will appreciate. Choose from a bed in a shared room (spacious heritage dorm, four person share mini-dorms or two person Heritage twin share); and private single, twin and queen rooms, all very convenient to clean, share bathrooms. We are pleased to offer everyone a smoke free house, however smokers can slip outside to one of our designated smoking areas. All guests have access to our large and funky, self catering kitchen/dining facilities; comfortable lounge with fireplace, games and library; quiet study/reading areas with free high speed internet access (wireless & free guest computer); rear sun decks, hammocks, BBQ, guest laundry facilities, a large private yard, views, and a brilliant front covered verandah, perfect for sitting back and watching some of Nelson's passing parade. Tariffs

The White House has several different accommodation options, depending on your preference and budget. Pick a bed/room from the menu. We offer beds in shared rooms for $25 per person; while our private rooms cost between $25-$30 per person, based on two people sharing ($50-$60/room), depending on the room type. More details on rooms and rates listed below. A variety of private single rooms are also available, costs as detailed below (whole room rate applies).

Prices are listed in Canadian Dollars, per person, per night, excluding applicable tax (a 5% GST applies on the rates listed below). All room types are subject to availability at time of booking. For more information about our hostel please see 'White House Legislation' below. Families with children are very welcome, prices vary depending on age and bedding use. Please call for rates.

Bonus: Free pancake breakfasts - now available any morning (but cook & clean up yourself)! Tea & coffee available anytime - we only ask a quarter donation to cover costs. More Bonuses: Free guest internet (as well as wireless internet available for those travelling with laptops); free on-site parking (space permitting), and our rate covers use of all linens including towels.

Is there no end to the Bonuses?: During our less busy times we can offer special discounted weekly rates. Subject to availability discounted weekly rates are available: 15Apr-01Jun & 15Oct-15Dec. Weekly rates are non-refundable, must be booked and paid in advance and are for cash sales only.

Rooms

Room Facilities: bedding as described below, all linen, blankets, quilts, pillows and towels are provided and the bed is made-up ready to tuck you in upon your arrival; individual bedside lamps, desks, chairs, and wardrobe or lockable bag storage. Private rooms offer bedside radios, otherwise our accommodation provides you an opportunity to escape from the hypnotic power of television and other media, allowsing you the opportunity to relax; select a magazine or reference book from our library; meet and chat with fellow guests or dive into that book you brought along that you've been meaning to finish for ages.

All rooms have either mountain, lake or garden views; and being a small, unique, or indeed 'boutique hostel', you'll find our rooms vary, offering distinctive furnishings and character. Please note that while every effort will be made to meet a specific room request, in the event of unforeseen circumstances, cannot be guaranteed.

White House Facilities: All guests have access to our spacious and comfortable lounge area, complete with fireplace, game/reading library; large and very groovy, fully equipped kitchen and dining facilities, equiped with pots, plates, cutlery, etc., and even some basic provisions; modern and very clean showers and toilets; high-speed wireless internet access and computer; private study areas. Outside, guests can relax in our large private yard with 'Presidential' lawned areas (offering badminton & croquet for summer amusement); small herb garden, two rear decks, hammocks, and a brilliant covered front verandah perfect for sitting back and watching some of Nelson's passing parade.

We do have a TV & DVD player that we can bring out on special occaisions, however we find the constant blare of a TV too distracting and lessens the chance that people will strike up a conversation. After all, you haven't come travelling to sit and watch TV all day, have you? Sometimes though, its nice to veg-out and watch a movie, and with our wireless internet connection you can hire DVDs through one of the local outlets if you've brought your laptop along. Alternatively, take in a movie at the Civic Centre (located opposite us on Vernon Street) or walk up to the Capitol Theatre on Victoria Street to enjoy a live show or art-house/limited release movie.

White House Legislation (our hostel 'under the microscope'):

Hostel Capacity: Up to 26 guests.
Dorms/share rooms: Our 6 person dorm Heritage Dorm is co-ed. For gals who prefer a 'Gals Only' room we have a smaller dorm in the East Wing available.
Special Groups: With advance notice either of our dorms and/& private rooms can be can be booked out to groups. Please contact us for a quote.
Linen: Yes, we provide you with a bed 'with the lot', including sheets, blankets, quilt, pillows and towels. We wont nickle & dime you on 'extras'.
Ensuites: clean, modern individual showers & toilets, just down the hall.
Tea/coffee: Help yourself to fresh brewed coffee or tea anytime from the guest kitchen. A small donation is requested to help cover costs.
Free Breakfast: Yes, whip yourself up some pancakes from the mix supplied for guests in our communal food cupboard. If you're not into pancakes there's a supermarket about 100 metres away.
Free parking: We are pleased to offer free on-site parking right behind the house, subject to availability. If our parking happens to be full there are metered spaces at the front of the house, as well as some parking in the side streets.
Kitchen: Fully provisioned kitchen/dining facilities available to all house guests. You'll find a range of herbs, spices & other cooking basics to get you going.
BBQ: cook up a storm on our brand new 'state of the art' guest BBQ, located on our covered front verandah.
Internet: Free guest computer with internet in quiet study nook. High-speed broadband access available at no extra cost. Free locals phone calls. Phone cards available for long distance calls.
Laundry facilities: coin operated laundry facilities available for your convenience.
Curfew?: No curfew, but please respect the peace and quiet of your fellow house mates by keeping the noise down after 10pm.
Pets?: Sorry, but out of consideration to other guests, we dont allow pets inside the house. However, your dog, cat or even guinea pig is welcome to sleep outside.

East Wing Dorm & East Wing Twin - located in our East Wing: quiet 4 person dorm (also suits families/small groups) & 2 person twin room (with 1 set bunks, perfect for 2 friends & same rate as dorm bed)	$25 per person/night
East Wing Double Rooms We have 2 double rooms available, offering guests great value in a comfy, cosy private room. One of these rooms has a double bed with single bunk configuration, suitable for small families, a couple & single, or three friends on super value triple share basis	$25 per person/night ($50/room) Triple share: $70/room (thats $23pp!)
Heritage Twin Room Spacious, tasteful room in the original part of the house with polished wood floors & old-style radiator. Perfect for 2 friends or the single traveller. During quieter times, this room may be available to single travellers wanting to enjoy a heritage room & willing to pay a little more to share with just one other guest.	$30 per person/night ($60/room) $30/per person/night on share basis ($60 on private basis).
Heritage Queen Rooms Delightful and spacious private rooms with superbly comfortable, quality queen box-spring mattresses, polished wood floors, wardrobe and bedside radio. Lake view or Queen with 1/4 bath* (featuring the home's original Victorian sink). *Please note while specific rooms can be requested they cannot be guaranteed. Also available: Queen Triple Room comprising: 1 Queen bed & 1 Twin bed, ideal for small families, two friends friends or on triple share basis @ $80/room).	$30 per person/night ($60/room)
Private Single Rooms Most rooms in the WhiteHouse are available to guests wanting to stretch out in a room of their own & are happy to pay for sole use of the room. *Please note whilst specific rooms can be requested they cannot be guaranteed.	$50-$60 per night (depending on room*)
